Personal Verdict

With all honesty, Digital Ocean is a good host. If you are a blogger using shared hosting, suddenly migrating to digital ocean can be like a jolt. It has been like four months since I have migrated to digital ocean and I have got hold of basics here. I can now host a website, get it running in minutes.

I have tested digital ocean from a blogger’s point of view. Since I not to deal with the interface once I installed WordPress, I faced no problem. You won’t have to open your digital ocean dashboard once you’ve setup WordPress (as long as you don’t mess up something). The only time you’ll be coming back is when it is time for renewing your hosting.

If you are a blogger, shifting to DO can certainly save money.

But you’d have to take a learning curve in understanding how to manually add SSL(in case you need it), how to setup server in server pilot (or whatever server manager you decide to use), setting up emails and so on.

For me, the curve wasn’t a big deal. With the pricing and features in return, I think Digital Ocean is worth giving a shot.

Features of DigitalOcean Hosting

1. They’ve given a lot of emphasis on keeping things simple. If you simply browse their website, you’d notice how the pages have been made with minimal design. Even the functionality of the platform is quite simple.

2. Servers are deployed in as less as 55 seconds. On the other hand, the 99.99% uptime acts like a cherry on top and makes them one of most reliable resources. I have no clue how secure the platform is because I am not much of developer myself, but so far nothing bad has happened.

3. The control panel is easy to navigate, and I understand most of the things despite not being a developer. Their API offers great control and personalized experience.

4. As a person who loves experiments, I love their pricing model. You’re only going to be billed for what you use. They don’t have monthly bills; you’re billed for per hour usage. It might sound bad for some people, but to me, it is a boon since I keep testing a ton of ideas all the time. The monthly limit also ensures that you’ll not max out on spending.

5. Advanced Equipment: Digital ocean provides industry grade equipment to attract app, and web developers. They understand the benefits and need for powerful, clean and super fast experience. One of their selling points includes SSD cloud server which you can get up in like 55 seconds. On your server, you get the best HEX core machines along with dedicated ECC rams that go alone solid state hard drives.

All of the plans come with 1GB/second network interface(I honestly have no what that is), with the starter plan offering 1tb transfer limit. The limit obviously increases in the upper tier plans. They have multiple data centers around the globe.
