WD My Cloud Home Review

Consumer cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and much more has been around for quite some time. They offer reliable services and applications that work with many different requirements however with the caveat that you need to pay extra for the additional storage.

With that in mind, Western Digital is introducing their newly refreshed My Cloud Home personal cloud storage options for home and general consumers. Imagine having your data stored in your own cloud storage without having to worry about all the restrictions from the public cloud service provider.

Gaurav Bhasin says:

Very informative video. Thank you.
I just bought My Cloud home 4TB version, primarily to back up videos and photos my and my family’s iPhones. I have a 4K LG smart tv, thought my cloud is connected to same network as my Tv, both through LAN cable to my router, I still cannot see my could drive in my TV. Can you advise how can I see it on my tv and access photos and videos which are backedup on my home cloud?
Thank you.

Excellent reviews, almost perfect. I loved that you compared it to pure cloud services and bringing up the mobile app issues.

Dave S. says:

I’ve read reviews like this one that say My Cloud Home works great with Plex But a bunch of others say Plex doesn’t work well at all through the My Cloud I’M SO CONFUSED

Rasmus Isaksson says:

I regret I baught my WD My Cloud Home. I find it extremely unreliable. I have lost many files that for some reason doesn´t transfer as they should have.

NightSociety says:

WD still see and access your files.  I don’t like this idea.  It should be optional.  I understand there also is no local mapping drive seen by LAN machines as the previous My Cloud Personal.
